Mystery's passion to help others began at an early age of 8 when she was tasked with the responsibility to administer insulin to her diabetic grandmother in Belize. Type Diabeat-it is so fortunate to have such a strong and compassionate leader!
Chair of the Board
Bukun is a recent graduate from the University of Western Ontario and holds a Master's degree in Social Psychology. Her passion for research and helping vulnerable populations led her to work with Mystery Furtado at Type Diabeat-it.
Vice-Chair of the Board
Fatima is a recent graduate from the Fanshawe College medical laboratory technician program and a superstar mom! She is excited to apply her knowledge to Type Diabeat-it and advocate for continued diabetes research and treatment.
John was born and raised in the London, ON area where he now resides with wife and 2 sons. John graduated from Fanshawe college with 2 Diploma’s in Business Information Systems and has since added 2 more Business licenses to assist people with all their Financial needs. John also enjoys Sports plus spending time with his family and helping out in his community and church.
Kellisha is a local hairstylist and a mother to three beautiful children. She was diagnosed with gestational diabetes with her youngest child and now is passionate about helping other mothers in the community who have gestational diabetes.
Dr. Jeanne Isabel is a Medical Laboratory Scientist with over 40 years of practice and academic experience. She has taken 5 groups of students to Belize for study abroad and began a research project on the incidence of prediabetes in Belize in 2016. She has published a paper on this in 2018 and presented more current statistics at the American Association of Public Health annual meeting held virtually in October 2020. Dr. Isabel is currently the Chair of the School of Health Studies at Northern Illinois University.
Coordinator of Volunteers/Internships
Samalia is a mom, wife, full time Psychology, Philosophy, Law & Politics university student and a Research Associate in the Windsor/ Essex county. She is also a certified Yoga instructor and a well-being advocate. Samalia is passionate about Social Justice, Equity, Equality and Education.
Albert is studying natural remedies to combat diabetes. He is a proud father of 6 children. Him and his family are Rastafarians. He does coconut and drift wood art in his spear time. Albert is excited to apply his knowledge to assist people living with diabetes.
Founder of Youth for World Peace
Sharon is passionate about providing opportunities for families especially children, youth and women. She is passionate about Diabetes prevention by focusing on promoting healthy lifestyles amongst high school students.
Youth for World Peace Coordinator
Kaliesha is currently pursuing a Bachelors Degree in Biology at the University of Belize. She decided to join Type Diabeat-it because diabetes hits home for her. Two of her uncles and her grandmother struggle with living with diabetes daily and she wants to be an advocate for them and for the many Belizeans who are suffering from diabetes.
Youth for World Peace Member
KayLani was born and raised in the beautiful country of Belize and has been a part of Type Diabeat-it since it's inception. Her grandmother who passed away from diabetes in 2005 after having several toes amputated had to move to the States due to lack of accessibility to proper diabetic care here is Belize is her main reason for participating in such an amazing organization. She hopes to raise more awareness and support for such much needed care for our beautiful Belize in the very near future!
Veronica isa recent Master of Public Health graduate with an interest in health justice, equity and health promotion! Veronica is a self-proclaimed book worm, lover of pizza and aspiring health advocate.
Maryam is an internationally trained medical doctor and public health candidate who is passionate about promoting health and advocating for healthy public health policy. She loves to cook and read, her favourite novel is "If Tomorrow Comes" by Sidney Sheldon.
Nancy is studying Information and Communications Technology from Douglas College and has 1+ years of professional experience as an Android Developer. Nancy loves exploring new technologies and is always curious to learn about real world development.
Kirstin obtained her Bachelors degree in Biology and a Masters in Forestry before 22 years old. Volunteering is a huge passion of hers, and she hopes to bring a fresh breath of honesty, open communication, access to information, and most importantly, free access to mental health care to the community to the fullest of her abilities.
Health, Wellness and Nutrition Coordinator
Leila is a current nutrition student at Western University. She believes in the importance of educating the public on healthy eating to create a healthier future. Leila enjoys baking, long-distance running and is fluent in French!
